Obituary

Arthur Gray “Bill “Williams passed away peacefully Saturday, February 27, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan. He was 87.

Bill was born in Wayne, Alabama on October 17, 1928 to John Riley and Ruth Ann Williams. He was baptized into the Baptist faith. During the early years of his life Bill attended school in Wayne. His family moved to Brenham in 1943 where he finished school .Bill was a Corporal of the National Guard in Company 386 Armored Engineering Battalion. His service included the Korean Conflict before his honorable discharge. On December 18, 1959, Bill was united in marriage to Gladys Eickenhorst, at First Baptist Church in Brenham. He was an employee of Bren-Tex Mills for over 45 years before his retirement.

Bill had a love for Gladys and her homemade pies that was unmeasurable. As a father, Bill was great a role model and teacher. His ability to make you laugh by his jokes, singing or witty remarks was truly one of his many selfless gifts. Bill loved to spend his time outdoors fishing, gardening, and camping. He also enjoyed going to Coushatta, the coast, or playing a good game of dominoes. Out of everything Bill loved to do, his most favorite was spending time with his grandbabies. There was hardly ever a time that his grandchildren looked into the stands of a field, or an auditorium, and didn’t see their Papaw waving back at them. He was definitely his grandchildren’s biggest fan. His smile, humor, wisdom, candor, and love of life are qualities of our husband, Pop, and Papaw that will forever be missed.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents John Riley and Ruth Ann Williams, infant sister Juanita Williams, sisters Betty Jo Kingston and Eyvonne Dannhaus, brother J.T. Williams, mother and father-in-law Tillie Williams and Walter Eickenhorst, sister-in-law Lucy Williams, and brothers-in-laws Daniel Wilke and George Kingston.

Loving survivors include: his wife of 56 years Gladys Williams; sons, Bobby Charles Williams and wife Lanette, Mark Alan Williams and wife Sharon; sister and brother Nelda Wilke of Brenham and Willie Williams of Spring; grandchildren Robyn and Shannon Payne of Hitchcock, Jamie and Justin O’Brien of Brenham, and Carter Williams of Brenham; one great grandbaby on the way; sister and brother-in-law Katie and Luther Hueske and James Williams all of Brenham; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Brenham Memorial Chapel with Pastor Larry Embry officiating.
