Bernhard "Gene" Hoppens

Bernhard “Gene” Hoppens, 74, of Brenham and the widower of Barbara Ann (Uilkie) Hoppens, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 in Brenham.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, October 22 in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, October 23 at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Gene was born February 10, 1943 in Hobbs, New Mexico to parents Bernhard Paul Hoppens and Clara (Strangmeier) Hoppens. On April 1, 1967 he and Barbara Ann Uilkie were married in the Assumption Church in Houston, Texas. In the military reserves he was employed in the freight department.

Surviving family includes: son, Troy Hoppens; granddaughters, Hailea Hoppens and Victoria Hoppens; great-grandsons, Teaga and Keaton; brother. Don Hoppens (wife Louise); mother of Hailea and Victoria, Lorry Summers Hoppens; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; aunt, Melinda Cook and husband Floyd Cook.
