Obituary

Charles A. Whiteford, Jr. (Sy) passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2014 in Bryan, Texas, surrounded by family. He was born June 16, 1930 in Annapolis, MD to Catherine Davis Whiteford and C. A. Whiteford, Sr. He attended The University of Texas at Austin. He enlisted in the US Army at the time of the Korean War. He graduated from OCS in 1952 and served in Augsburg, Germany. In July 1952, he married Susan (Susu) Carroll Anderson in Houston. Mr. Whiteford was in the Mortgage and Insurance business and was also a home builder. He served as a vice-president at First City National Bank in Houston in 1969 in Commercial Real Estate. In 1976, Sy graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. Susan and Sy moved to Brenham, Texas in 1995 and have spent their retirement years at Bug Hill Farm in Independence, Texas, just outside of Brenham.

He is survived by Susu, his wife of 62 years, and three children: Carroll Ruppert and husband (Richard Ruppert), Susan Hugo and husband (George Hugo), and Charles A. Whiteford, III and wife ( Laura Beth); and eight grandchildren: Catharine Ruppert Helgeson (Scott), Cristen Ruppert Weyand (Rodney), Kyle Davis Ruppert (Kacey), Emily Hugo Keens (Robert), Katherine Hugo Scates (Joshua), Lisa Hugo Walters (Cole), Charles A. Whiteford, IV, and Chandler Anderson Whiteford, and eight great grand- children.

Sy was a member of the Bayou Club of Houston, Brenham Country Club, Houston Country Club, and Eagle Lake Rod and Gun Club. He also belonged to the Monday Lunch Group at the Brenham Grill and the Friday Golf Group at Brenham Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Brenham, Unity Theatre in Brenham, and The Animal Friends of Washington County.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the doctors and staff at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bryan, Texas.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, September 10 at 2 PM in St. John The Divine Episcopal Chapel, 2450 River Oaks Blvd., Houston.

Memorial service will also be held Thursday, September 11 at 11 AM in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 2310 Airline Dr., Brenham.
