Obituary

Charles Ray “CJ” Richardson, Jr., age 13, ended his courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Visitation is planned for Friday, July 11 at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church in Brenham from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Brenham Junior High School on Saturday, July 12 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Artis Edwards, Sr. officiating. CJ will be laid to rest in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

CJ was born on October 30, 2000 in Bryan, Texas to parents Charles Ray and Pamela (Hutchinson) Richardson. CJ was a student at Brenham Junior High School and completing his 7th grade year. He loved sports. CJ played Little Dribblers Basketball, Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Basketball and two years of Washington County youth football. He competed in the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition and qualified for the state championship where he finished 3rd, an accomplishment he was very proud of. CJ was also involved in Washington County Little League and served as a youth usher at church. When CJ was not playing sports himself, he was on the sidelines as his brother’s biggest fan.

CJ was a competitor on the field but the last 10 months proved he was a competitor and soldier in life. His faith in Christ, love of life and courage to face this illness without complaint or fear served as an inspiration to Texas Children’s Hospital staff, his family, friends and our entire community. He was a true champion and his spirit will live on and serve as an inspiration for all.

CJ is survived by his loving family, Mom and Dad, Pam and Charles; brother Cameron; aunts and uncles Mary Burks, Stephanie Burks, Lisa Burks, Shelia Rogers, Ricky Harris, Niece Harris, Jennifer Hutchinson, Tina Vasquez, Charles Love, Samantha Fleeks, Joseph Love; maternal grandparents Brenda Hutchinson and Charles Love; paternal grandmother Doris Burks along with CJ’s best friends Dalton Mcary, Kegan Eason, Domontric Winters.
