Obituary

Clarence Walter Schoenvogel, Jr., 63, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017. Walt was born in Fort Worth, Texas on March 10, 1954 to Clarence and Annell Schoenvogel. He graduated from Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts in 1972, where he set the record for the high hurdles, which was only broken four years ago. Walt attended the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Journalism in 1977. He was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

On July 10, 1976, he married the love of his life, Charlyn Rosenbaum, and they shared 41 wonderful years of marriage. After graduation, Walt served on Lt. Governor John Hill’s gubernatorial campaign before moving back to Brenham, Texas, where he later became the President and Owner of Chappell Hill Construction, the Managing Partner and Founder of R&S Leasing, and Founder of Patriot Ranch. Walt also had a passion for writing and wrote several screenplays. He enjoyed hunting, watching football games, and never passed up an opportunity to travel to new places.

Walt was a pillar in the Brenham community selflessly giving of his time and talents. His involvements include: an active member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served as Congregational President, Personnel Committee Chairman and usher; member of the City of Brenham Board of Adjustments and the Planning & Zoning Board; member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce; board member of the Washington County Economic Development Foundation; member of Brazos County Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the Blinn College Foundation; and a board member of the Texas A&M RELLIS External Academic Advisory Board.

His philanthropic works include serving on the Blinn College Foundation, Baylor Scott & White Foundation, Camp for All, Scotty’s House and Hospice Brazos Valley.

Walt will be remembered for always living life to the fullest by his wife, Charlyn Rosenbaum Schoenvogel; daughter Sally Schoenvogel Bradley and her husband Michael; son Trey Schoenvogel and his wife Ashlee; as “Chief” to his grandchildren Elizabeth Bradley and Ava and Charli Schoenvogel; mother Annell Schoenvogel; father-in-law Charlie Rosenbaum, Jr. along with many special and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Schoenvogel; sisters Sally and Sara Schoenvogel; and mother-in-law Gladys Rosenbaum.

Serving as pallbearers are Gregg Appel, Darrell Blum, Paul Ehlert, David John Folschinsky, John Hasskarl, James Hodde, Atwood Kenjura, Paul LaRoche, III, John Schaer, Jr., Wade Seidel, Charlie Stoddard, David Toone. Honorary pallbearers are the employees of Chappell Hill Construction, R&S Leasing, Patriot Ranch and Topper’s Liquor.

Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 from 5pm-7pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, Texas 77833. A celebration of Walt’s life will take place on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, Texas at 10:30 am with Pastor Phil Fenton officiating.
