Obituary

Don McNiel, age 76 of Brenham, husband of Sherry McNiel, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

Don was born on July 11, 1947 in Brenham, Texas to John H. and MaeBelle (Sasser) McNiel. He graduated from Brenham High School in 1965. Don served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from June 1969 to June 1971. He attained the rank of Sergeant.
In 1994, Don met his match, his person, his partner in fun, Sherry. They were married on December 9, 1994. He had a successful career in the piping/oil/gas industry and retired in 2016 from South Coast Supply.

Don loved the rodeo. During his younger years, he enjoyed calf roping. He was a proud man. Don took pride in family, his home, his yard, his health, and his truck. Even at 76 years old, he would walk daily. His yard, home, and truck were always immaculate. More than his love for Sherry was his love for his leaf blower, Stihl weed eater, and picking up sticks.
Don was a private man, enjoying evenings at home with Sherry, take out, watching the cowboy channel or the Texas longhorns, and an occasional Wild Turkey cocktail. Of the many things he enjoyed, nothing compared to the title he attained in 2007 when he became “pawpaw” after his granddaughter Kilee was born.

He is preceded in death by his parents John H. and MaeBelle McNiel.
Don is survived by his loving wife Sherry, son Kyle McNiel, stepson Jared Bain, daughter-in-law Mandi Austin and husband Michael, grand-daughter Kilee McNiel, sister Tracy Kramer and husband Michael, brother-in-law Glen Baker and wife Amy, sister-in-law Shelli Galvan and husband Jeff, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Honorary Pallbearers are Calvin Landry, James Webb, Jason Eickenhorst, Glen Baker, Jared Bain, and Ben Seeker.

Visitation will be Saturday February 17th beginning at 10 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. all at Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer Street., Brenham.
