Obituary

Dorothy T. Head passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015 in Bryan, Texas.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Unity Memorial Presbyterian Church in Liberty, Mississippi. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Centreville, Mississippi.

Dorothy was born on April 6, 1930 to Edgar and Pearl (Kirkland) Talbert in Liberty, Mississippi. Dorothy was the eldest of four children. Dorothy married her loving husband, Norman Drexel Head at the University Methodist Church on the LSU campus in November of 1949. Dorothy was an elder in her church where her parents had also attended. She was known as a great cook, hard worker and nurturer. She excelled at crafts, her pine needle baskets, knitting, dolls, and sewing. Her yard was always full of beautiful plants and flowers. She loved animals, dogs, cats and her peacock ‘pretty boy’.

Drexel and Dorothy raised their family in Beaumont, Texas. Drexel retired from Gulf States Utilities as the manager of the rate department. Drexel and Dorothy then moved to Liberty, Amite County, Mississippi, to care for Dorothy's ailing father. They stayed on there to live their retirement years. In recent years they had lived in Brenham, Texas to be near their daughter.

Dorothy is survived by: daughter, Kathy and Bill Boeer of Brenham, Texas; son, Melvin and Debbie Head of Beaumont, Texas; daughter-in-law, Judy Head of Zachary, Louisiana; sister, Helen and John G. Lee of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and sisters-in-law, Agatha and Lonnie Gasaway, of Petit Jean Mtn, Arkansas, Daphne and Paul Higginbotham of Mountain View, Arkansas, Carol Lynne Moore of West Monroe, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Chester N. and Evelyn Head of Houma, Louisiana; grandchildren, Melody and Peter Sullivan, Keith Head, Marla Boeer, Mandy and Jason King, Amy and Chris Lilley, Jason and Mindy Head, Jennifer Head; great-grands, Keely, Brodie, Annie, John, Matthew, Benjamin, Michael Drexel, and Reagan; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, brother James Talbert, sister Mary T. Ryan,
son David E. Head, son Larry Head, daughter Linda Head and grandson Matthew C. Boeer.
