Obituary

Edna Bertha Emshoff Mikeska, 99, widow of Reuben Otto Mikeska, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19 at 10 a.m. at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Wehdem with the Rev. John Hirling officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

She was born November 7, 1917 in the New Wehdem community, the daughter of Louis and Emma Tiemann Emshoff. She was baptized on March 31, 1918 and confirmed on March 20, 1932 at St. James New Wehdem. She attended public school at Kentucky Ridge. On December 20, 1938, she married Reuben O. Mikeska at St. James New Wehdem. They were blessed with three children, Joy Dell Mikeska DeWitt, Reuben Odell Mikeska and Robert Fred Mikeska.

Edna was a lifelong member of St. James New Wehdem. She loved teaching Sunday School and treasured the time she spent with her dearest friends in the Martha Circle. She had fond memories of her working years at Hohlt’s Department Store and Judy’s Young Ages. Edna was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Visiting relatives were among her greatest joys in life and especially a game of 88. After Reuben’s death, she continued to enjoy fellowship and games at the Senior Center.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband Reuben on January 5, 2007; parents, Louis and Emma Emshoff; sisters and brothers-in-law, Meta and Otto Huebner, Erna and Connie Eckermann; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Lillian Mikeska, Frank and Helen Mikeska, Alfred and Bernice Mikeska and Ed, Ella and Elsie Tegeler.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Joy Dell and James Bart DeWitt; son, Reuben Mikeska and friend Jane Herzog; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Marita Mikeska; grandchildren, Stephanie Natale, Tanya and Kurt Overby, Steve and Shay Mikeska, Bart and Kristal DeWitt and Michele Mikeska and friend Kia Jaffe; great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Mason Natale, Ellison and Bristol Overby, Jamie and Reed DeWitt, Lauryn, Ashlyn and Kristen Brewer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bart DeWitt, Jr., Steven Mikeska, Kurt Overby, Donald Huebner, Rev. Stanley Eckermann, Larry Tegeler, Glenn Emshoff and Maurice Hart.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Tegeler, Delano Mikeska, Mason Natale, Larry Breasan, Fred Eilers and Cleburn Cordes.

Her family truly appreciates the love and kindness shown to her by the caregivers and staff at Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation and the special care given by Hospice Brazos Valley.
