Obituary

Edna Sophie Schomburg Boeker, 101 of Brenham, passed away peacefully with family by her side, Saturday, November 19, 2016.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 22nd at 1 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Edna was born December 5, 1914 in Germania, Texas to Christian Schomburg and Mathilda Tiemann Schomburg. She was baptized January 31, 1915 and confirmed March 24, 1921 in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem. Edna married Ernest Baker Sr. on April 23, 1934 in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem.

Edna lived in the Germania and New Wehdem area her entire life and was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. She loved having her children and grandchildren come to the farm and visit. Upon leaving, she would always say, “Come when you can.” Edna was known to all the many children she took care of, as “Nanny”. Some did not want to go home, so at times they would stay the night. Her grandchildren and children she took care of loved her sweet tea, canned biscuit doughnuts and sugar bread. Edna always had a smile on her face and kind words to share with others.

Survivors include: grandchildren, Tammy Pearce of Weatherford; Joel Cowart of Brenham, Tony Carr and significant other Rynn of Dallas, Kevin Boeker and wife Kelly of Brenham, Kaci Dudenhoeffer and husband T. J. of Yorktown, Pamela Rodgers and husband Terry of Houston, Nita Carol Arriola and husband Zack of Houston, Charles Turner of Houston; daughter-in-law, Carol Boeker of Brenham, mother of Kevin and Kaci; sixteen great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Christian and Mathilda Tiemann Schomburg; husband, Ernest Boeker Sr.; brother, Arnold Schomburg; sister and brother-in-law, Lenora and A.L Patterso; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Wayne Turner, Joann and Marvin Stafford; son, Ernest Boeker, Jr.; grandsons, Dale Turner and Greg Cowart; and great grandson Bobby Carr.

The family extends thanks to Brenham Nursing & Rehabilitation and all their staff for the love, care and kindness they provided.

Memorials may be given to St James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem or the charity of choice.
