Obituary

Eileen Myrtle Raschke, age 99, passed away on April 9, 2016.

A memorial service will celebrate her life on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in First United Methodist Church, Brenham with Pastor Jon Stouffer officiating.

Eileen was born in Sealy on October 31, 1916, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Brandt) Schlechte and the great-great granddaughter of August and Caroline (Homburg) Weiss. As a preacher’s daughter she lived in many towns throughout Texas. She married Clarence Raschke on June 8, 1935 in Lexington. Shortly thereafter they moved to Houston where they lived for almost sixty years. She and Clarence moved to Brenham in 1992 to continue their retirement.

The first twenty years of marriage were spent as a housewife and mother. Later she worked as a sales associate at Battelstein’s and Palais Royal until she and Clarence moved to Brenham.

Eileen was actively involved in her church and her community. She served as a Cub Scout den mother, in various positions in United Methodist Women, in her Sunday school class, and in teaching positions. In high school she placed third in the state in tennis. She bowled and played volley ball into her seventies. She enjoyed organizing and playing 42, 88, and bridge.

Eileen was preceded in death by husband, Clarence Raschke, and by brother, Dr. Marvin Schlecte. Survivors include son, the Rev. Donald Raschke and wife Margarett; daughter Lanelle and husband the Rev. Dr. Bryan Brown; grandson David Brown and wife Shannon, and granddaughter Janet Hubbard and husband Bradley; and four great grandchildren Sam and Grace Brown, Ella and Sophia Hubbard. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and other cousins.

Eileen was a devoted mother. She had an exquisite sense of style which served her well as a sales associate. She loved her God and was devoted to her family and her many friends.
