Obituary

Elizabeth Brewton Herzog passed away on June 25, 2017 at High Hope Care Center in Brenham, TX.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 27th from 5:00 - 7:00 at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mark Groves officiating. Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery.

Liz (Sugar) was born July 16, 1927 to Raymond and Katherine (Duckworth) Brewton in Clay, Texas. She attended grade school in Clay and graduated from Navasota High School in 1945. She then worked at Navratil Music and Jaster Jewelry. On October 14, 1950, she was married to Clarence Herzog in St. John’s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill by Pastor Gogolin. Clarence and Liz were members of Park Place Lutheran Church in Houston, TX for 26 years. Upon returning home to Clay in 1976, they became members of First Lutheran Church in Somerville and were members until their deaths.

Liz was an avid sportswoman who loved to hunt, especially deer and birds. She also enjoyed fishing with Clarence by her side. In the summer, you could find Liz canning tomatoes which grew abundantly in their garden. Liz had a great love for her family and a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed spoiling them, and she treated each of them as if they were her own children. Liz was a considerate, kind-hearted, thoughtful person who always brought a smile to anyone she met.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, Clarence, brother Bubba Brewton and wife Helen, great-nephew Travis Janner, father-in law and mother- in-law, Leo and Ella Herzog, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Elfred and Vennie Herzog, sisters-in-law, Carolyn Herzog, Britta Herzog, nieces and nephew, Beverly Tegeler, Larry Herzog, and Kathy Herzog.

Survivors include: sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Charles Janner of Clay, brother-in-law, Glenn Herzog of Austin, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harvey and Arin Herzog of Brenham, nieces and nephews, Rusty and Katy Janner of Snook, Gayle and Donald Bednar of Brenham, David and Dawn Brewton of Brenham, Jenny and Dean Hrbacek of Sugarland, great nieces and great nephews, Raymond Janner of Snook, Eric, Pamela, Cooper, and Tucker Plagens of Brenham, Brandon and Kaley Bednar of Brenham, Shea and Taylor Janner of Snook, Sarah and Chandler Wagner of Hockley, Dakota Brewton of Brenham, Bradley, Byron, and Amanda Hrbacek, special friend Ruth Ellis and many more nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Pallbearers are Brandon Bednar, Dakota Brewton, Ray Janner, Shea Janner, Eric Plagens and Pamela Plagens. Honorary pallbearers are Cooper and Tucker Plagens, all nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to extend special gratitude to the staff of High Hope Care Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice Brazos Valley, Independence Cemetery Association and First Lutheran Church of Somerville.
