Obituary

Elroy Paul Ganske passed away peacefully at his home early Sunday morning, November 6, 2016 at the age of 77.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 9th from 6-8 p.m. and funeral services Thursday November 10th at 2 p.m. both held at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Rev. Mark Moore will officiate.

He was born in Sealy, Texas on July 3, 1939 to Paul, Jr. and Annie (Kiesewetter) Ganske and was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Sealy. He was confirmed in Friedens United Church of Christ near Gay Hill. He attended several country schools throughout Washington County and in Somerville.

On May 3, 1966, he married Catherine Wilke Covey, to which union was born two daughters, Gayle Lynnette and Zena Kay.

Elroy spent most of his adult years as a truck driver, hauling everything from cattle to milk to oil to grain to industrial machinery. He loved being on the road, driving through nearly every state and into Canada, and seeing a vast array of scenic spots throughout the nation.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife of fifty years, Catherine Ganske; son, Michael Ganske and wife Linda of Granite Shoals; daughter, Gayle Deaver of Kingwood; daughter, Zena Hubby and husband Doug of Highland Village; stepsons, Curtis Covey and wife Lana of Dacono, Colorado, Craig Covey of the Philippine Islands, and Clark Covey and wife Ana of Flower Mound; his sister, Willie Mae Hugo of The Woodlands; his brother, Henry Ganske and wife Lavern of Brenham; and his niece Carolyn Ann Kay and husband Doug of The Woodlands.

He is also survived by grandchildren Jessica, Chris, Noah, and Chloe Ganske, Craig Covey, Jr., Jessica McAllister, Johnathan Covey, Megan Jackson and husband Nick, Mollie Poehlmann, Christian Deaver, Caleb Hubby, Noah Hubby, and Hannah Hubby, and by several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents, son-in-law Keith Deaver, step-son Charles Covey, and brother-in-law Garrett Hugo.
