Obituary

Ethel Pauline Witte Gurrech, 94, of Brenham, died peacefully Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the Brenham Rest Home. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Minna Krueger Witte, brother Johnny and husband Lonnie.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 12 in Brenham Memorial Chapel where a reception will be held following interment in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Ethel was born August 15, 1921 in the rural community of Coshatte east of Bellville. She was baptized and confirmed in St. John’s Lutheran Church of Bellville. Ethel grew up on the Witte farm doing all typical farm chores. In 1938 she moved to the “big city” of Brenham where she lived and worked for several families. In 1947 she married Lawrence (Lonnie) Gurrech in Salem Lutheran Church and they were married 45 years.

After marriage Ethel worked as a waitress in several restaurants before becoming the “best homemade dessert maker” at Blinn College.

Ethel was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brenham. Other memberships include V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliary.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Brenham.
