Obituary

Evelyn Ann Kruse, 83 of Brenham, passed away at her home Monday, July 24, 2017 with family members by her side.

Visitation with the Kruse family will be Thursday, July 27th from 6-8 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 28th at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Phil Fenton officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Evelyn Ann Kruse was born May 13, 1934 in Brenham to parents E.F. and Bertha (Quebe) Kruse. She was a graduate of Brenham High School, Blinn College, Sam Houston State Teacher’s College and Incarnate Word where she received her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught 28 years at the Northeast Independent School District in San Antonio. She retired in Brenham, once again returning to the Kruse family home where she cared for her mother.

Evelyn Ann enjoyed traveling throughout the country and world. She was an avid reader and sports enthusiast. She was keenly interested in education and athletics at Brenham Independent School District and at Texas A&M University. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She cherished visits with family and friends. Evelyn Ann was very interested and involved in St. Paul’s Christian Day School, serving many years on their board. She was affectionately known as “Aunt Evie” to her nephews and nieces as well as the children at St. Paul’s Christian Day School and considered them all her children.

Her philanthropic support was given to St. Paul’s Christian Day School, Blinn College, Brenham Independent School District Foundation (academic and athletic), Scott & White Hospital System, Lutheran Social Services, Texas Lutheran University, as well as many other local organizations.

She was preceded in death by: parents; siblings, Edwina Kruse (infant), Bertha Spitzer and Ed Kruse; nieces and nephews, Sherry Blume, Charmille Tamulinas, Ken Kruse, and Neil Kruse.

Loving surviving family includes: sister, Mildred Kruse Bridges; brother, Howard Kruse and wife Verlin; sister-in-law, Evelyn Kruse; nephews and nieces, Doyle (Pat) Spitzer, Jan (Dan) Wegand, Lu Beth (Russell) Henske, Gary (Kathy) Bridges, Greg (Donna) Bridges, Karen (Wes) Hall, Paul (Babs) Kruse, Diane (Clinton) Kettler, Kathryn Boyd, David Kruse and Jim (Hailey) Kruse; nephews-in-law, Les “Butch” Blume and Stacey Tamulinas; niece-in-law, Janie Skatell; and numerous great nephews and great nieces.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers who helped Evelyn Ann in her time of need: Susan Moore, Sherri Finke, Staff of Scott & White-Temple, Dr. Michael Schlabach of Brenham, staff of Hospice Brazos Valley and the home health team of Kimberly, Sheila, Idell, JoAnne and Beverly.
