She became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg upon her marriage to Arnold and devoted much of her time to teaching Sunday School and Bible School , serving as Sunday School Superintendent, member of Altar Guild, Ladies Aid and Naomi Circle and singing in the Adult Choir. She ran a carpool for years picking up children after school and taking them to youth choir practice.
Evelyn also enjoyed her civic involvement especially the Brenham Lioness Club.
She loved her grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed her time with them. She also loved to play the piano. Onward Christian Soldiers was her favorite hymn and it was heard everytime she sat at a piano for she knew it by memory.
