Obituary

Florence “Anne” Surovik passed peacefully from this life into the next on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Brenham Memorial Chapel with Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 PM with Pastor Kay Reed officiating.

Anne was born in Beaumont, Texas, on September 30, 1948 to Thomas Harold Housenfluck and Martha Anne (Swafford) Housenfluck. Anne married Daniel Raymond Surovik in 1970 and in 1973 she began her life long career as a respiratory therapist. In 1974, Anne and Daniel made their home in Bellville. In 1976, Anne and Daniel welcomed their beloved son, Darren Wayne on June 30th. Even though Anne and Daniel divorced in 1996, they remained close friends. Anne moved to Longview in 1997, where she continued her work as a respiratory therapist until she retired. Anne moved back to the Brenham area in 2015 to be closer to her family and beloved grand-daughters, Mia and Leia.

Anne enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Europe, Big Bend, Santa Fe and the Surovik Ranch in Caddo, Texas. She enjoyed camping, hiking and being outdoors. She loved to read and learn about Texas, United States and World History. She was an avid hunter and wildlife enthusiast. Anne was a social butterfly. She enjoyed eating out and visiting with friends and family every chance she had. She had an infectious sense of humor and was known to make others laugh. Since 2007, her greatest love was being a grandmother and teaching her grand-daughters the Camp Fire Girl songs she learned growing up through her years as a camp counselor. She looked forward to the “camp outs” she shared with Mia, especially the stories they would create and share with one another. She will be greatly missed, but her memory will live on in her family and friends.
Anne is survived by her son, Darren Wayne Surovik and daughter-in-law, Trish Ann Surovik; grand-daughters, Mia Gwynne Surovik (age 8) and Leia Karynne Surovik (18 months); her brother Ted Housen, sister-in-law, Diane Housen and niece Casey Housen all of Oregon and close friend Daniel Surovik. She is also survived by her beloved dachshund, Anka, and numerous other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Caddo Range and Wildlife Management Association (http://caddowma.org), the National Parkinson Foundation (www.parkinson.org) or the National Stroke Association (www.stroke.org).
