Florence was born on October 16, 1917 to Ben and Henrietta Duerr Bormann in the community of Wesley. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham by Reverend Arthur Hartman. She was also married in this church to Robert Draehn on November 25, 1937.

Florence was educated in the Wesley area schools and worked hard on the family farm. She and her family later moved to a new home on FM 389 near Brenham where her wedding reception was held shortly after the home was completed. Florence worked in many businesses in Brenham but is remembered mostly by her years with Arp Jewelry Store. While at work here, the store was burglarized which was a traumatic experience for her. Florence was also a Pink Lady at Trinity Medical Center for many years and gave unselfishly of her time visiting the nursing homes in Brenham and visiting homebound residents. Another highlight of her life was being able to tour Europe with a group from St. Paul’s Church. She was a member of the Ladies Aid at St. Paul’s Lutheran and a Sunday School Teacher there for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Trinity Medical Center Auxiliary.

After retiring, she enjoyed sitting at her kitchen table and watching the cattle in her pasture and tending to her flower beds. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and would have loved to have been here to welcome her first great great grandchild due in April, 2016.

Florence was predeceased by her husband Robert, parents, parents-in-law, daughter-in-law Jeannie Draehn, brother Calvin Bormann and wife Aline, and her husband’s brothers, sisters, brothers in-law, and sisters-in-law. She is survived by: sons, Dr. Donald Draehn and fiancée Carol Chaney and Norman Draehn and wife Doris; grandchildren, Ashley Gumbert, Rhett Draehn, Michael Draehn and wife Brenda, Stephen Draehn and wife Stacie; great grandchildren Amanda Akers and husband Carter, Shelby, Kelsey, Cameron, and Carson Draehn, Spencer, Oliver, and Ethan Gumbert; a great great grandchild (Baby Akers) due in April, 2016.
