Obituary

Fred Franklin Shelton M/SGT, USAF (ret), age 81, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Scott & White Hospital-College Station. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with Rosary at 7:00 P.M. on Friday June 27, 2014 at Brenham Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday June 28, 2014. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery with a flag presentation by the Brenham Honor Guard.

Fred was born March 23, 1933 to parents Mary Pectol and Sol Shelton in Cordell, Oklahoma where he also attended school. On March 12, 1953 he was united in marriage to Barbara Marie Pulis. Fred retired after serving twenty-one years in the U.S. Air Force Security Service. He also retired after twenty years of service with Germania Insurance Company as Director of Marketing and Training. He held memberships in Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph’s Council #3287, the Democratic Club and the Berlin Dancing Bears while stationed in Germany. He volunteered as a teacher for the American Literacy Organization. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham for 35 years and spent countless hours worshiping at the Adoration Chapel. …As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD (Joshua 24:15).

A champion of human rights with an unparalleled ability to express in action and words, his unequivocal love for family and friends. He possessed an unequaled mastery of off-shore and lake fishery, with a penchant for Lake Somerville and the Texas Gulf Coast. A celebrated barbeque chef extraordinaire, whose gastronomic delights were internationally enjoyed. Not enough space, nor time to list the endless ways in which he enhanced, enriched and blessed our lives, and the lives of everyone he met. He is well loved and we are proud that we shared in his adventure.

Survived by his loving family, wife Barbara Marie Shelton of Brenham; son Michael Shelton and wife Sabrina of Lubbock; son Kenneth Shelton of Austin; daughter Diana Adkins and husband James Hurst of Grand Junction, Colorado; daughter Rozanne Shelton of Brenham; daughter Katina and husband Tomas Rodriguez of Brenham; brother Ted Shelton of Childress, Texas; grandson Grant Adkins and wife Rebecca; granddaughters Stephanie Mesa and husband Gabe, Katie Shelton, Chelsea Thornton and husband Danny, Shelby Kettrick; step-grandsons Roy and Montana Vega; great-granddaughters Payton, Kiley and Zoey Adkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother J.D. Wallace and sister Viola Shelton.

Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus with his grand-children named as honorary pallbearers.
