Obituary

Freddie Walter Watson of Caldwell, Texas departed from this life and into God’s loving arms on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.

Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 26 and funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 27 both in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Dylan Ray will officiate. Interment will follow in the Historic Independence Cemetery.

Freddie Walter Watson was born November 14, 1950 in Quanah, Texas to parents Ralph Walter Watson and Bessie Faye Jones Watson. He grew up and attended school in Childress, Texas, where he graduated in 1969. Fred was a member of the Childress High School Band. While living in Childress, Fred was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was employed at the Childress Index, Gibson’s Discount Center, the Garment Factory, and several other jobs. In September 1969 he attended the University of Texas at Arlington, graduating in December 1972 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

In January 1973, Fred began his accounting career in Houston with Exxon Corporation. On February 21, 1976 he married Carol Ann Autrey from the Brenham, Texas area. Fred received his Texas Certified Public Accountant’s License in 1978. In 1989, he became a member of the Petroleum Accountants Society of Houston and the Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies. In 1993, Fred became a member of the Group Ticket Sales Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where he was a Rookie of the Year. In 2006, Fred received the Charlie Smith Award for Meritorious Service for the Rodeo Ticket Sales Committee (successor to the Group Ticket Sales Committee). Also in 2006 with over 33 years of service, Fred retired from ExxonMobil Corporation (successor to Exxon Corporation). He had attained various professional and managerial positions. In 2008, Fred received the “Eagle Award” for outstanding service to COPAS (Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies).

Fred is survived by: his wife Carol; brother Darrell Watson and wife Patricia of Belton, Texas; along with numerous nephews, nieces and in-laws.

His parents preceded him in death.

Pallbearers will be Vernon Autrey, Jeff Autrey, Larry Autrey, Michael Watson, Ronnie Watson, Allen Watson, Danny Poole and John Hill.
