George Burch, Jr.

George Petty Burch, Jr., 88 of Brenham, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in Care Center Brenham.

George was born December 30, 1922 in Brenham to George Petty and Lydia (DeVoke) Burch. On September 25, 1938, he was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Rev. Hartmann. He graduated from Brenham High School. George worked with his step grandfather Frank Sykes, and then for 44 years George was owner of Brenham Concrete Pipe Manufacturing.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. His hobbies included fishing, bow hunting and the special talent of woodcarving.

He was preceded in death by parents, brother Cecil Burch, sister Ruth Burch.

George is survived by: sister-in-law, Bess Burch of Brenham; nieces and spouses, Bonnie and Kelly Dougherty of Plano, Nancy and Tommy Nettle of Brenham; nephew, Bob Burch of Brenham; special friends, Sally and Kenneth Blum, Lowell Herzog, Jr.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 27th from 5-7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 28th at 3 p.m. in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Phil Fenton officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John DeVoke, Jr., Jonathan Burch, Mark Murphy, Taylor Rybarski, John Whittaker, Lowell Herzog, Jr., Kenneth Blum, Matt Routt. Honorary pallbearers will be all other great and great-great nephews and nieces and Sally Blum.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, special music fund, 305 West Third St., Brenham, TX 77833.
