Obituary

Gladys Vollert, 90, of Chappell Hill, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 30th from 6-8 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 31st at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg with Pastor Robert Sorensen officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Gladys was born April 20, 1926 in the Wonder Hill Community of Washington County to parents Willie Klehm, Sr. and Minnie (Engeling) Klehm. Gladys attended Wonder Hill School, where she played volleyball and basketball.

On September 15, 1945, she married Willie Vollert. They made their home in Chappell Hill and for many years operated the Humble Service Station. She was a hard worker picking cotton, cleaning homes and caring for neighbors. She enjoyed cooking, baking especially oatmeal cookies and lemon meringue pies, sewing, crochet and embroidery. Gladys loved visiting state parks and bird watching with her family. She looked forward to playing bingo and bunco. She enjoyed music especially polka and country music.

Gladys was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg.

Gladys is preceded in death by parents, husband Willie Vollert, Sr. in 1991, siblings Willie Klehm, Jr., Harry Klehm, Wilburn Klehm, Wilbert Klehm, Edgar Klehm, and Gertrude Schroeder.

She is survived by children and their spouses, Mary Ann (Edwin Sr.) Grahmann of Victoria, Carolyn (Ray) Busse of Navasota, Shirley (Richard) Scheibe of Whiteville, Tennessee, Willie Vollert, Jr. and Darrell Vollert both of Chappell Hill; 14 grandchildren, Mary Jane (Arthur) Peoples, Edwin, Jr. “Eddie” (Trish) Grahmann, Russell Grahmann, Greg Grahmann, Brian (Debra) Grahmann, Kevin Grahmann, Pam (Jerry) Vahalik, Timmy (Loraine) Grahmann, Keith (Chanel) Grahmann, Sherry (Wally) Coronado, Heather Bernard, Bethany (Anthony) German, Steven Scheibe; 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Florence Klehm and Lillie Mae Klehm; special friends, Mary Witte, Jennifer and Dane Wagoner, Sharon Davis, The Lesser Family, Nancy Bronikowski, Kay Dekowski, Randa Allie, Donna Gaines, Bonita Mallard, Eunice Crawford, Pam Rudasill, Shirl and Landon Parnell and Dorothy Wilke; and family friend Clarence Muegge.
