Obituary

Harvey John Ebert, Sr. was born December 30, 1929 in Schertz, TX to Alvin Ebert and Ottilia Stapper Ebert. The family moved to the Three Rivers area in South Texas when Harvey was in second grade. They bought a farm near Pawnee, TX where Harvey lived and helped on the farm until he graduated from Three Rivers High School.

Harvey was working as a mechanic at an Oldsmobile garage when he was recruited for a job with Robert H. Ray, a seismograph company. After a short apprenticeship and technical training with the company, he began his drilling career.

Harvey’s first overseas assignment was a two year drilling job near Lima, Peru in 1952 (where he drilled his first water well).

In 1954 Robert H. Ray Company turned their attention to the Sahara Desert. Harvey was transferred to Egypt, where he met and married his wife Denise and where their children Lisa and John were born. Harvey’s job took him to Libya where he worked in the Libyan Desert until 1973. With the unrest in the Middle East becoming more frequent, Harvey moved his family to Brenham. He purchased a farm in Greenvine, TX in 1958 after visiting friends in Brenham and falling in love with the beautiful area.

Harvey took one more job in South America in 1976. This time he worked for two years with a seismic company in the jungles and farms of Venezuela.

In 1978 Harvey bought his first Drilling Rig and worked for Exxon drilling seismograph holes on the King Ranch and other large properties in South Texas. Later that year, Harvey and Denise started Harvey’s Water Wells Company – drilling and repairing water wells in Washington and surrounding counties.

Among his many accomplishments, he treasured being honored, in 2008, by the Texas Ground Water Association with an Honorary Life Membership Award in appreciation of his 30 years in the water well business.

Harvey always loved his work, but his second passion was golf! He cherished the comradery of his fellow golfers and loved to compete. He and friends won several tournaments. Harvey and Denise have called Brenham home for over the past 40 years with wonderful friends and neighbors.

Harvey passed away January 19, 2015 after a long, brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He is survived by: his wife of 60 years, Denise Ebert; daughter, Lisa Stacey; son and daughter-in-law, Harvey John Jr. and Linda Ebert; grandson Jamie Ebert and his wife Brooke and great granddaughter Addie Grace; and grandson, Desmond Traudt.
