Obituary

Herbert Carl Bockhorn, of Brenham and the husband of Lucile Bockhorn, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Scott & White Hospital in Brenham. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, May 8, 2015. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9 in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem with Rev. Lawrence Bade officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Herbert was born in Brenham, Texas on August 26, 1928, the son of Louis and Otillie Klaerner Bockhorn. Herbert was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem on November 19, 1928 by Rev. M. C. Hoermann. He was confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church on March 29, 1942 by Rev. H. T. Flachmeier. Herbert was united in marriage to Lucile Hopmann on February 15, 1953 at St. James Lutheran Church by Rev. M. C. Hoermann. Herbert was a life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church.

Herbert attended Pleasant Hill Grade School and graduated from Brenham High School in 1946. Herbert retired from the City of Brenham Parks Department. Prior to failing health, Herbert enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Herbert enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to their visits each weekend and throughout the week.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucile; his children Shirley and Mark Alford, Robert and Lynn Bockhorn and Ronnie and Suzanne Bockhorn all of Brenham; grandchildren Kim Kaliszewski, Karen and Greg Cooper, Jennifer Bockhorn, Jill and Cody Coble, Stacey Bockhorn and special friend Joe Hinton, Lauren and Jeremy Buckley and Taylor Bockhorn and special friend Cody Jankowski; great grandchildren Kaden Birkelbach, Emma Hinton, Colt Coble, Jackson Buckley and Zachary Cooper. Herbert is also survived by his sisters Agnes Griesenbeck of Smithville and Ellen Henske of New Wehdem and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, son-in-law Joe Kaliszewski, Jr., brothers Ben and Roy Bockhorn and sisters Louise Winkelmann and Elaine Kokemor.

Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church or a Charity of Choice.
