Obituary

James Donald Bradley Sr., 84, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. He was born in Garner, TX on May 29, 1927 to parents of Samuel and Sarah Frances Bradley.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Glenda Baker Bradley; daughter Debra Jo Allen and husband Ray of San Marcos, TX; daughter Lori Watford and husband Gary of Brenham, TX; son James Donald Bradley, Jr. and wife Becky of Pasadena, TX; brother Wayman Bradley and wife Sharon of Bellville, TX; sister Lela Fay Jones of Pasadena, TX. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1946-1948, where he served as a Military Policeman providing security for the Japanese War Trials. He met Glenda Lucille Baker on Friday 13, 1950 at a high school basketball game. He and Glenda were married six months later on Friday, April 13, 1951. He worked in the oil fields in New Mexico and Texas until September 12, 1954, when he became a letter carrier for the United States Post Office in Odessa, TX. In 1956 he transferred to the Pasadena, TX Post Office as a carrier. He was promoted to supervisor in 1970 and in 1972 he became Postmaster of Deer Park, TX. Don retired as Postmaster on August 4, 1983 and moved to Colmesneil, TX where he worked with the Woodville School District as a bus driver. He and his wife Glenda moved to Brenham, TX in the spring of 2007 where they became members of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville.

Don was a very friendly and loving man who never met a stranger. He loved country and gospel music and knew the artists of the songs by heart. Old movies from the 1930s through the 1950s were his favorite.

Visitation will be Monday, May 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville in Brenham, TX with Pastor Jim Abbott officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Eric Bradley, Ryan Allen, Garrett Allen, Michael Allen, Sawyer Watford, and grandson-in-law Tim Gonzales.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial gifts be offered to American Cancer Society, or Brazos Valley Hospice.
