Obituary

Joe Martinez Jr., 70, of Brenham, died June 15, 2017 at Scott and White Hospital in College Station. He passed away with his family by his side.

Joe was born July 18, 1946 in Gonzales County Texas, son of Joe Maria Martinez and Maxine Rivera Martinez. On December 30, 1969 he married Kathryn Kohring. They were married for 47 years.

He was a “fixer” at Mount Vernon Mills (The Cotton Mill) for 42 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at home and at the pasture hunting and shooting, where we always had home cooked food and plenty of beer. After he retired, he enjoyed babysitting his furry grandkids (Pete, Mary Jane, Chica, and Coco). You would frequently find him sitting on the front porch visiting with many friends or eating at Manuel’s Mexican Restaurant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Nate Preuss.

Joe is survived by his wife, Kathryn Martinez; sons, Jody and TJ Martinez; daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Patrick Draehn, Linda and Brandon Coghlan, Mary and Freddie Hrnicko, Cristine and Bobby Weige; grandchildren Mitchell Draehn, Kourtney and Lee Neumann, Rodney, Seth, Wyatt, and Harley Coghlan, Savannah and Annika Hrnicko; one sister Mary Meschwitz and her husband Lorinz; one brother Felipe Silvas and his wife Sylvia; sisters-in-law Barbara Kohring, Pat Kohring, Marilyn Klussmann, and Sandra Searle; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jerry and Doris Kohring, Valgene and Diana Kohring, Danny Kohring, Diane and Chuck Boggan, Rebecca and Ray Wellmann, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
