Obituary

Lilburn Meier, 82 of the Welcome Community, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Baylor Scott & White, Brenham. Visitation will be Monday, September 1, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 2 at 10:00 a.m. in Welcome Lutheran Church with Pastor John Sutton, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews: Erich W. Glenewinkel, Daniel Merz, Ralph Wiesepape, Ronnie Hurtig, Larry Schroeder and Koy Brinkmeyer.

Lilburn Ernst Meier was born June 18, 1932 to Herbert and Hattie (Wittneben) Meier in the Welcome Community of Austin County. He was baptized August 7, 1932 by Rev J. Appel and confirmed March 30, 1947 by Rev. W. Wolf both in Welcome Lutheran Church. He attended Concordia School of Welcome and was a 1950 graduate of Bellville High School. On August 9, 1958, he married Dolores Hurtig at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem. Lilburn farmed and ranched all of his life. He also, was employed by Steadley Company for 33 years, 20 of those years as a truck driver. As a lifelong member of Welcome Lutheran Church, he served several times on the church council, taught Sunday School and was a member of S.C.V. Lilburn enjoyed reading and watching T.V.

Surviving loving family includes: wife of 56 years, Dolores Hurtig Meier; sons, Lyle C. Meier and wife Bonnie, Kenan “Ken” B. Meier and wife Tracy; daughter, Lana B. Meier; grandchildren, Linsey Renee Meier and Joe Ryan Meier; sisters, Loraine Glenewinkel and Viola Merz; sisters-in-law, Hildegard Brinkmeyer and Mabel H. Winkelmann.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; parents-in-law, Theo. C. and Anna Hurtig; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Erich Glenewinkel, Stanley Mertz, Robert Hurtig, Theo W. and Esther Hurtig, Alvin Brinkmeyer; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Martha and Henry Wiesepape and Lydia and Edward Schroeder.

Memorials are requested to the Building Fund of Welcome Lutheran Church.
