Obituary

Linda Ott Bartels, 89 passed away on March 24, 2016 at her home in Shelby, TX.

The visitation will be Wednesday March 30, from 5 pm – 7 pm in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held 1 pm Thursday March 31, 2016 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Linda was born on November 28, 1926 in Landstuhl, Germany to Rosa Anna and Benno Ott. Linda met Idie Bartels during the closing days of World War II, and remained in touch after he had returned home to Brenham, TX. It was this communication that propelled her to leave Europe, and was the last war bride to arrive in the United States on September 20, 1949.

After her joyous reunion with Idie their love was forever sealed on October 5, 1949 where they were wed by Pastor Walter Wolf at Welcome Lutheran Church. Throughout their marriage they spent their ever waking moments cultivating the soil and tending to their cattle herd.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Anneliese Best, brother Heinz Ott and his wife Margarita Ott, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gilbert and Viola Bartels, and nephew Keith Bartels.

She is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Royce and Barbara Bartels, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special family friends Chase Franklin, Faye, Emmitt, Jr., Emmitt, III, Emmitt, IV Schultz, Linda Parsons, and Debbie and Mike Byrd.

The pallbearers will be Randy Bartels, Kris Bartels, Emmitt Schultz III, Mike Byrd, Mike Przyborski, and Allen Parsons. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Shannon Mitschke, Troy Schomberg, Randle Bryan, Emmitt Schultz IV, and Ryan Guerrero. In addition, Gerhard Koegele and Egon Schackmann her native German friends.
