A beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Lora Weghorst Stegemueller of Brenham, Texas, went to meet her Heavenly Father on May 14, 2017 on her 101st birthday. She was embraced by the love of her family.

Lora Stegemueller was born in the Sandy Hill Community on May 14, 1916 to German immigrants Fritz and Louise Lammert Weghorst. Lora was baptized on July 16, 1916 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill by Reverend George Czerkus and was confirmed in the church on March 29, 1931. She attended the Kuykendall School and was active in the Washington County 4-H club where she received the 4-H Gold Star Award.

Lora was united in marriage to Arnold Louis (Tom) Stegemueller on December 18, 1938 by Pastor Rudlof Becker in St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Shortly after their marriage they moved to what became their family farm some three miles west of Friedens Church in Washington, Texas where they farmed and operated a dairy. Lora was a longtime member of Friedens Church in Washington. Lora and Tom moved to their home in Brenham in 1986 where she lived until she was hospitalized the day after Easter.

Lora was very proud of her five children. She strongly believed in the importance of education and with her encouragement all of her children received college educations. Lora loved to read and was always current with the news of the day. She believed that you were never too old to learn something new. Lora was a Christian whose whole life was a testament to the faithfulness of her Savior. She knew the Bible well and lived her life according to its teachings. Even in her 100th year she enjoyed praying in German with her dear friend, Rev. Walt Schindehette.
