Obituary

Loraine Glenewinkel, 95, of Bleiblerville, TX, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, TX.

Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 26 at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 27 at Welcome Lutheran Church with Pastor John Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Loraine (Meier) Glenewinkel was born July 19, 1922 to Herbert and Hattie (Wittneben) Meier at their home in Welcome, TX. On Jan 12, 1946 she married Erich C. Glenewinkel of Seguin, TX at Salem Welcome Lutheran Church by Pastor Walter Wolf. She worked at Nat’s Tiny Tots, Old Brazos Forge and Brenham State School.

She was a life-long member of Welcome Lutheran Church, having taught Sunday school and was active in the Women of the church group. Other memberships include Shelby American Legion Post #602 Auxiliary, where she was past president and member since 1992, VFW Post #7104 Auxiliary, having continuous membership since 1950, Charter Member of Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary Unit #139, Industry VFD, Bleiblerville VFD, Texas Farm Bureau and Sons of Hermann Lodge #6 in Brenham. She loved to play dominoes and cards. She loved spending time with her family and was always ready to go anywhere. She was an avid Astro fan and enjoyed watching all sports, especially when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were playing. Other favorite past times included playing pitch, 42, moon and any games she could win (as rules changed accordingly).

Loving family members include, daughter Joyce Krause and husband Alfred, son Erich W. Glenewinkel and wife Doris, daughter Kathy Ropshaw and husband Paul; grandchildren Amy Krause and special friend Debra Richard,Tammy Rounsavall and special friend Mel Kalpe, Nick Krause, Chuck Glenewinkel and wife Lacey, Melissa Glenewinkel, Chase Ropshaw and wife Emily, Max Ropshaw and special friend Gabriella Wise, Cade Ropshaw and special friend Brian Massie; great-grandchildren, Chole, Caleb, Bella, Zack Krause, Ryan Rounsavall, Nathan and Shana Neely, Erich and Charlie Glenewinkel and Sullivan Massie.

Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Erich C. Glenewinkel, twin sister Viola Merz, brother-in-law Stanley Merz and brother Lilburn Meier; infant grandson Keith Allen Krause.

Memorials may be given to Welcome Lutheran Church Building Fund.
