Obituary

Margaret Louise McNaughton Newton, 91, formerly of East McKeesport, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 24, 2016, at Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village in Brenham, Texas. She was born June 6, 1925, to Nathaniel and Mable (Collingwood) McNaughton in Larimer, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Norwin High School in 1943. She married Ellis Newton in November of 1943 before he was deployed to Europe during World War II. When he was reported missing in action after the Battle of the Bulge, she never gave up hope that he was alive and would return to her and their infant son. After Ellis was liberated from a German prisoner of war camp and returned home, the Newtons lived in East McKeesport, where Margaret Newton was a devoted wife and mother. She and her husband enjoyed bus trips with their friends, and she also enjoyed reading, cooking, playing cards, and crocheting. She held a life-time membership in the Pitcairn Chapter of Eastern Star and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of E. McKeesport Number 2 Volunteer Fire Department. A life-long Presbyterian, she was a member of Brenham Presbyterian Church.

Left to mourn her are: son, Ken Newton and wife Linda; grandchildren, Alex Newton and wife Kathryn, Matt Newton and wife Bethany, Kat Newton and significant other Jeff Howard; along with great-grandchildren, Sophie, Evie, Benny, and Leo Newton. She is also survived by son-in-law Rowland Jones, Jr., and many nieces and nephews, including special niece Jean Diak. Margaret Newton was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Nathaniel, Jr. and Joseph McNaughton; sisters, Mary Santimeyer, Mabel Ramage, and Lena McNaughton; by infant grandson, Paul Newton, husband, Ellis Ira Newton; and daughter, Marjorie Newton Jones.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Margaret Newton will be held on Sunday, September 4 at 4 p.m. at Brenham Presbyterian Church. Brenham Memorial Chapel is in charge of local arrangements. Margaret Newton’s ashes will be interred at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park in E. McKeesport, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of Brazos Valley, Brenham Presbyterian Church, Bread Partners of Washington County, or a charity of your choice.
