She was born August 12, 1944 in Corpus Christi to Phillip, Sr. and Viola (Forster) Bush. On April 17, 1965, she married Mike Oglethorpe. He preceded her in death May 2, 2005. They celebrated 40 years of marriage.

When living in Houston, Rita was employed as a medical transcriptionist by M.D. Anderson Hospital, soon after that department was first developed. She later established Medical Transcription Services. She also was a realtor with RE/MAX.

Rita also worked as a realtor in Bryan. While there, she was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star in College Station. Her husband Mike was a Mason.

To be near her daughter, she moved to Brenham. Rita was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. She enjoyed plays at Unity Theater, art museums, church gatherings, traveling, collecting depression glass, visiting family and friends, and attending family reunions. Rita took great pride in her visits with her family throughout Texas.

Rita’s purpose in life was loving and caring for her family, especially her daughter and son-in-law Kelli and Brian Barnes. She was devoted to her grandchildren, who called her “Mimi”. She enjoyed singing and going to church with Bryce, collecting dolls with Kate, and reading to Savannah. Rita is also survived by many beloved cousins and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Unity Theater and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Memorials may also be directed to Hospice Brazos Valley.

Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, TX 77833. 979.836.3611 Tributes may be shared at www. BrenhamMemorialChapel.com.
