Obituary

Mrs. Ruby Gaye McBride of Brenham died Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Kruse Village. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, December 29, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Rev. C. Kay Reed and Rev. Bill Lanigan will officiate at the church service.

She was born on March 20, 1919, in Sour Lake, Texas, to Dean and Maggie Jones. In 1942, she married Robert E. McBride in Montgomery, Alabama. They met in Brenham, where she worked for the Farm Services Administration in the basement of the Old Post Office Building. For many years they worked in other places in Texas and they returned to Brenham for their retirement years. In Brenham, they were members of the First United Methodist Church.

Ruby loved her beautiful yard and blooming flowers. She loved sitting in her swing on the back porch and visualize what changes she would make in her yard. Ruby loved to quilt so much that each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild had their own personal quilt.

She and her husband loved to travel and had many beautiful experiences and friends around the world. Ruby also took great delight in being surrounded by family as well and also she attended many Spurlock reunions. After she returned to Brenham, she volunteered with the card group at First Methodist and at Higgins Branch.

Ruby is survived by two daughters, Patsy Klahn and husband, F.A., of Houston and Debbie Tindall of Sydney, Australia. She is also survived by four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Grandchildren: Katherine Lanigan and her husband, Bill of Huntington, Texas; their children are Will, Andrew, and Daniel. Steven Klahn and his wife, Tina, of Katy; their children are Michael and Ethan. Jenni Brown and partner Mark Young of McLean, Australia; their children Lilly, Ava, and Harry. Shannon Brown and his wife Pascale of Montreal, Canada; their son Raffy and her best friend, Eloise Wheeler of Arlington, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Brown, Dave Hellmann, John Jackson, Steve Klahn, Ken Schiller, and Wayne Spurlock. Honorary pallbearers are Raffy Brown, Ethan Klahn, Michael Klahn, Andrew Lanigan, Daniel Lanigan, Will Lanigan, and Harry Young.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Methodist Home in Waco, Texas, Salvation Army in Houston, Texas, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
