Ruth Carol (Blome) Fritz

Ruth Carol (Blome) Fritz, 84 of Brenham, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017.

Visitation will be Friday, March 31 from 5-7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1 at 9:30 a.m. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

She was born December 23, 1932, in the Sandy Hill Community of Washington County to Edwin and Lydia (Loesch) Blome. She was baptized on January 29, 1933, by Pastor George Czerkus and confirmed on April 14, 1946, by Pastor W.C. Poehlmann at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill. She attended Kuykendall School until her last two educational years. Ruth was a 1950 graduate of Brenham High School. She met the love of her life, Eugene Edward Fritz, on a blind date. On October 12, 1952, they were married at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill by Pastor A. M. Fiedler. Together they worked their farm, raised cotton, cultivated annual vegetable gardens, and processed their own meats from their farm-raised animals. Before becoming a mother, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Farmer’s Merchant Lumber Company. She was a devoted wife and mother. She canned fruits and vegetables and was an excellent cook. Being an organizer, her home was always neat and welcoming. After her children finished high school, she worked 20 years as a food service employee at Blinn College and the BISD Food Service Department. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and lovingly prepared their favorite foods and always loved their visits. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching Lawrence Welk and Hee Haw. Ruth was a faithful member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. After her husband passed away, she could not always attend her church services, but it was evident in her lifestyle that she loved her Lord and was faithful to Him.

She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Arthur and Ida Fritz, husband of 59 years Eugene Fritz, and sister, Faye Blome.

Surviving loving family sons and spouses, Duane and Sherry Fritz of Brenham, Dale and Lisa Fritz of Bryan, James and Nancy Fritz of Brenham; grandchildren, Landon and Catelyn Fritz, Justin Fritz, Hunter Fritz, Lauren and Anthony Allison, Gregory Fritz, Amanda and Rex Threatt, Kayla Fritz and fiancé Garrett Street; step-grandchildren, Nathan Vyskocil, David and Brandy Vyskocil; great-grandchildren, Madison and Harrison Threatt; step-great-granddaughters, Mya and Zoey Vyskocil; sister, Dorothy Thompson; sister-in-law, Annie Marie Fritz, and numerous other family members.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church.
