Obituary

Sara Annell Schoenvogel, 58, of Fort Worth, Texas died early Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Brenham. Sara fought her battle with cancer hard and remained with us for months longer than her physicians predicted. Sara loved life and did not want to let it go.

Sara was born in Fort Worth, Texas on Jan. 26, 1956. Sara spent her childhood and youth in Brenham, She was baptized and confirmed in the First United Methodist Church of Brenham. One of the many activities Sara participated in as a youth was Brownies. When she was a Brownie The Banner Press did a story on her. Sara attended public schools in Brenham and St. Mary’s in San Antonio before she left for Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. After graduation as an Art Major at TCU, Sara worked numerous jobs. Her two favorites were the pet stores where she found homes for cats and dogs and being a nanny for the Baker family of Fort Worth. One of her other creative talents was making jewelry which she sold at numerous venues including the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

Sara was a free spirit and an accomplished artist whose talent was seen at an early age. Mr. Milton Routt of Chappell Hill noticed her talent and would take her to a weekly art class at Texas A&M where she received professional training.

Sara was a devout pet lover and was constantly bringing home stray cats and dogs to nurse and take care of until she could find them suitable homes.

Sara was preceded in death by her younger sister Sally and her father Dr. Clarence Schoenvogel. She is survived by her mother Annell Schoenvogel of College Station; her brother Walt Schoenvogel and his wife Charlyn of Brenham; a niece Sally Schoenvogel Bradley and husband Michael of Marina del Rey, California; and nephew Trey Schoenvogel and his wife Ashlee and daughter Ava of College Station.

A private memorial service will be held at Prairie Lea Cemetery under the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel.
