Obituary

Sarah Key Painter, 67 of Brenham, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at home with her daughter and husband by her side.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, July 22nd from 1-3 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 24th at 10:30 a.m. at the Key family plot in Hext Cemetery in Hext, Texas.

Sarah was born on December 10, 1949 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Tommie H. and Mary Louise (Waring) Key. She grew up in Hext and Fort Stockton, Texas. Sarah was a retired goat rancher and banking administrator. On December 2, 2005 she was married to Thomas R. Painter in Brenham. Sarah loved to spend time shopping with her daughter and was an active community volunteer giving of her time unselfishly to many civic and charitable endeavors including Hospice Brazos Valley, Brenham Fine Arts League, Bluebonnet Garden Club as well as outreach activities by her church naming just a few. While working with Bluebonnet Garden Club and Brenham Fine Arts League, she utilized and refined her many talents in gardening, oil painting and leaded stained glass.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving loving family includes: husband, Tom Painter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lloyd and Connie Painter of Owls Head, Maine; children and spouses, Terah Mayse and Jeffery Hogan of Magnolia, Texas, James and Melissa Painter of North Richland Hills, Texas, Jerry and Jo Anne Painter Portele of Fulshear, Texas, Sean and Jennifer Painter Gavin of Dana Point, California, Jeffrey and Lisa Painter of Pocatello, Idaho. Sarah was a loving "Memaw" and cherished spending time with her grandchildren, Aedyn and Ashlynn Hogan, Ross and Reed Painter, Samantha and Corrine Portele, Rory, Neve, Liam and Nial Gavin and Kailey, Krista and McKenna Painter. She is also survived by her big hearted brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Carol Key of Amarillo, Texas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rod and Kathy Painter of Rockport, Maine, Patty Painter and Kevin Robertson of Thomaston, Maine, John and Kati Painter of Lewiston, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Hospice Brazos Valley.
