Obituary

Selma Naumann, 91, of Brenham, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at her home.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 18th from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday, September 19th at 2 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Lee Kunkel and Rev. William Holzer officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Heath Byrd, Doug Brown, Matthew Brown, Gerald Krause, David Reue and Alan Pennington. Honorary pallbearers will be great grandchildren and caregivers Gertrude Carter and Carolyn Fielder.

She was born to Henry and Malinde (Dreyer) Peters on December 5, 1922 in the Kuykendall Community of Washington County. She was baptized February 11, 1923 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Weideville by Pastor Dziewas and confirmed March 21, 1937 at Friedens Evangelical and Reform Church, Washington by Pastor E.H. Schwengel. Selma attended the Washington School. On March 24, 1946, she was married to Calvin J. Naumann at Friedens Evangelical and Reform Church, Washington by Pastor Paul Piepenbrock. Together she and Calvin owned and operated C&S Drive-in and Corner Drug from the 1960s-1970s. She also worked at Topper’s until retirement at age 87.

Selma enjoyed cooking and dancing and was a member of Top Cat Dance Club. She was there for the needs of her family and was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher and member of choir, Altar Guild, and Ladies Evening Circle.

Preceding her in death are: parents, husband Calvin Naumann, daughter Sharon Brown, 6 sisters, 2 brothers, 1 sister-in-law, 9 brothers-in-law.

Surviving loving family includes: daughters, Marilyn Naumann, Pat Byrd Wright and husband Hoot; son-in-law, Jim Brown; grandchildren, Heath and Carrie Byrd, Doug Brown, Matthew and Renee Brown; great-grandchildren, Isabel, Wyatt and Tyler Byrd, Andrew Brown and another expected March great-grandchild; sister, Mabel Dufilho; sister-in-law, Margaret Peters; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are requested to Grace Lutheran Church or School and Hospice Brazos Valley.
