Stephen J. Gaffigan

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of Stephen J. Gaffigan, age 70, who passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 in San Antonio, TX. Steve was born in Springfield, IL. on September 25, 1946 to Joseph P. and Anna Bonansinga Gaffigan.

Steve graduated from the University of Maryland and went on to have a very successful and rewarding career in law enforcement and public service in many cities across the United States. Steve was charming, charismatic and well spoken. He never met a stranger.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Anna Gaffigan, step-father Paul Haggerty and brother Robert M. Gaffigan who was killed in 1970 in the Vietnam War.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Marilyn Gaffigan; daughters, Shannon Ashmore of Sewickley, PA, Erin Batts of Fairbanks, AK, Megan (Greg) Bellerose of Holliston, MA; son, Stephen (Soo Wan) Gaffigan of St. Louis, MO; step-son, Jon Fletcher of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Lucy and Giboney Ashmore, Wyatt and Cole Gaffigan, Grace and Audrey Batts, Charlie and George Bellerose, Joan and Maddy Gaffigan; brothers Larry (Hannah) Gaffigan and Joseph F. (Eileen) Gaffigan both of Silver Spring, MD; sisters-in-law, Betty (O.B.) Becker and Sharon (Galen) Younger both of Houston, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 24th beginning at 5 p.m. until the rosary is recited at 7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel, Brenham, TX. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 25th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Chappell Hill, TX. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
