Obituary

Viola Merz, 94 of the Bleiblerville Community, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at Baylor Scott & White Brenham.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 26th from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 27th at 2 p.m. at Welcome Lutheran Church with Pastor John Sutton, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.Honorary pallbearers will be Erich Glenewinkel, Lyle Meier, Kenan Meier, Lana Meier, Kathy Ropshaw and Joyce Krause.

Viola Merz was born July 19, 1922 in the Welcome Community to Herbert and Hedwig (Wittneben) Meier. She attended Concordia School. During World War II, she and her twin sister Loraine worked at Comal Cotton Mill in New Braunfels. After the war, Viola met a returning soldier, Stanley Merz. On June 8, 1946 they were married by Rev. Walter Wolf at Welcome Lutheran Church, her lifelong church. They made their home in the Bleiblerville Community. She was a homemaker and also had been employed by Brenham State School. Viola was a member of VFW, DAV and American Legion Auxiliaries. She was an avid Astros fan, celebrating her 90th birthday at Minute Maid Park watching the Astros.

Viola was faithful, loyal and loving. She was contented with her life with strong Christian values and with much love of family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Stanley Merz, brother Lilburn Meier and brother-in-law Erich Glenewinkel.

Loving family includes: daughter, Rosalie Wendler and husband Donald of Brenham; son Daniel Merz and wife Sandra of Bellville; grandchildren, Darla Hamff, Kelly Hord, Holly Wendler, Dustin and Morgan Wendler, Carrie and Chris Mlcak, Eli and Brittney Merz, Macie and Mark Gonzalez; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Chris Saucedo, Briley Mlcak, Leah Mlcak, Julie Hamff, Austin Hamff, Aidan Hord, Kynslee Wendler, Elie and Dane Merz, Eva, Owen and Aaron Gonzalez; great-great-grandchild, Harley Saucedo; twin sister, Loraine Glenewinkel; sister-in-law, Dolores Meier; numerous nieces and nephews.
