Obituary

Wesley Fritz Schlechte, 98, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 in Pasadena, Texas.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Brenham with Rev. Mark Groves and Rev. Walt Schindehette officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Wesley was born October 7, 1918 in Kenney, Texas to Henry and Elise (Riechers) Schlechte. On December 15, 1941, he was married to his life-long companion Ella Mae Goessler in St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg. Wesley served in the U.S. Army in France during World War II. Upon returning home, the couple moved to Houston. He worked at the Houston Ship Channel as a warehouse supervisor for Anderson, Clayton and Company. He was a devoted father to their only son Rodney. In1980, the Schlechtes retired in Washington County. Wesley never met a stranger. He was an active member of Park Place Lutheran Church of Houston and Christ Lutheran Church of Brenham. He was a beekeeper and avid gardener.

He was preceded in death by: parents; wife of 71 years, Ella Mae Schlechte; sisters, Ruth Scholl and Helen Boyd.

His surviving loving family includes: son, Rodney Schlechte and wife Diane; grandchildren, Micah Schlechte, Robert Schima and wife Lindsay; great-grandsons, Duke Schima and Jack Schima; sister, Eunice Hall; nephews and nieces, David and Debbie Pilgrim, and Hope and Roy Pilgrim, Betty and Dennis Davis, Bonnie and Mike Yentzen, Mary Ann and Tom Thompson, Marie and Pete Koper, and Jimmy and Tammy Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Christ Lutheran Church or Christ Lutheran Church Day School.
