Obituary

Wilfred Winkelmann, 90 of Brenham, passed away peacefully the morning of June 18, 2015 at Kruse Village.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 21st from 6-8 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Monday, June 22nd at 10 a.m. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery of New Wehdem.

Wilfred Winkelmann was born December 1, 1924 at home to Thoe and Erna (Haevischer) Winkelmann in the New Wehdem Community. He was baptized February 8, 1925 at St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem by Pastor Heineke. He was confirmed April 2, 1939 at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem by Pastor R.A. Schmidt. On November 10, 1945, he married Bernice Schulz at Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome. Wilfred farmed on the family farm until moving to Houston in 1961. He worked in various steel and fabricating businesses and returned to Brenham in 1970. In 1976 he purchased Modern Cleaners in downtown Brenham. On July 22, 1977, he married Ora Nell Witte at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem. Wilfred enjoyed his years owning Modern Cleaners and all the friends he met as he never met a stranger. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards and dominos, family gatherings, and his beloved grandchildren. He also enjoyed his favorite neighbors Tim and Alice Klaus whom he visited daily and would eat out with at their favorite restaurants.

Wilfred is survived by: his sons, William Winkelmann and wife Jeanette, Nathan Winkelmann and wife Darla, Kenneth Winkelmann and wife Jackie, Darrell Winkelmann and wife Lori; grandchildren, Keith Winkelmann and wife Jackie, Ryan Winkelmann, Courtney Wilson and husband Blake, Carlee Winkelmann and fiancée Jeff Wright, Kristen Winkelmann and fiancée Henry Porter, Jay Winkelmann and special friend Ashley Nicholls, Adam Sefcik, Chelsey Winkelmann, Danny Gober, Dustin Gober, David Gober; great-grandchildren, Ezra Winkelmann, Ella Rae Wilson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Will and Flora Henske; sister-in-law, Dorothy Tesch.

He was preceded in death by his parents Theo and Erna Winkelmann, wife Ora Nell Winkelmann, step-sons Ronald Witte and Donald Witte, sister and brother-in-law Gloria and Leroy Herzog, brothers-in-law Leslie Tesch and Jessie Tesch, sister-in-law, Johnny Mae Tesch.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Keith Winkelmann, Ryan Winkelmann, Jay Winkelmann, Courtney Winkelmann, Carlee Winkelmann, Adam Sefcik and Chelsey Winkelmann and Kristen Winkelmann. Honorary pallbearers will be special friends Tim and Alice Klaus, Pasty Love, Russell and Geneva Bayh.

Special thanks for the wonderful and loving care he received from nurses and staff of Kruse Village and Brazos Valley Hospice.
