Obituary

William R. Felscher Jr. of Brenham passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 in Houston, Texas. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Salem Lutheran Church of Salem with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

William was born April 7, 1918 at Berlin, Washington County, Texas, the son of William and Ella Felscher. He was baptized on June 23, 1918, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church by Pastor Johana Megebroft. He was also confirmed there on September 4, 1932 by Pastor William Utesch. He was married to Dorothy M. Flentge on December 24, 1942 at Salem Lutheran Church by Pastor A.J. Mohr. William served in the U.S. Army Air Force 45 months as a sergeant. After receiving his discharge, William and his family lived in El Paso, Texas where he was employed as an accountant with Hervey Food Products Co. After some time, they moved to Houston, Texas where he accepted a position with Maynor Lumber Co. as accountant and assistant manager for over 20 years. William helped organize and served as the first treasurer of Hope Lutheran Church, a mission church in Houston, Texas. He also served on the building project. After leaving the Lumber Co., he was offered a position with Flintkote-Genstar Building Supply Co. as branch-area accountant serving several branches. After a change of address, he became a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Bellaire, Texas until he retired and moved to his new home in Brenham, Texas. William very much enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Salem, American Legion, AARP, and the Berlin-Mill Creek-Zionsville Fire Dept.

He is survived by: daughters and sons-in-law Diana Lynn and Richard L. Folse of Dickinson, Texas, Cheryl Ann and J. Steven Williford of Houston, Texas; grandson, William R. Folse and wife Jennifer of Hitchcock, Texas; granddaughters, Jennifer Suzanne Folse of Dickinson and Kimberly Ann and Jessica Lynn Williford of Houston, Texas; great-granddaughter, Della Grace Folse; brother Woodville Felscher; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Milton and LaRuth Flentge, Mary Tockhorn, Joyleen Felscher, and Helen Daunhaus, all of Brenham, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; his parents; brother, Bennie; sister Ella Mae and brother-in-law Perry Lee Bathe; brothers-in-law Ernest Flentge, Otto Flentge Jr., Raymond Daunhaus, and Ruben Wenzel; sisters-in-law Sylvia Felscher, Alma Wenzel, and Irene Flentge; and a niece, Carol Overby.

If desired, memorials in William’s honor may be given to Salem Lutheran Church of Salem.
