Obituary

Willie Mae (Sweetie) Grubbs, a long time resident of Brenham, went to be with the Lord Feb. 12, 2015 in San Antonio.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Brenham at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 with a reception in Fellowship Hall following the service.
She was born Willie Mae Benad in Taylor, Texas to Hans and Cornelia Benad on May 22, 1927, and was the youngest of three children. She graduated from Taylor High School and attended Sam Houston State University where she met the one love of her life Earl W. Grubbs. They married on April 26, 1947 and had two sons. They moved to Brenham in 1953 where Earl was the high school football coach, and later Dean of students at Blinn Jr. College. Sweetie worked for many years at the Brenham Clinic while raising her sons. She moved to San Antonio in 2006 where she lived out the rest of her life. She was an avid card player and loved playing with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl W. Grubbs and her brother Millard Benad.
She is survived by her brother Harvey Benad of Taylor; her two sons Michael J. Grubbs and his wife Nancy of Ponder, and Zane W. Grubbs and his wife Susan of San Antonio; six grandchildren: Wendy Duvall and husband Larry of Baytown, Gina Richmond and husband Ward of Dallas, James Grubbs and wife Christina of Corinth, Texas, Gavin Grubbs and wife Bekah of Dallas, Zachary Grubbs and wife Connie of Fort Thomas, Kentucky and Lindsey Davis and husband Chris of Arlington; seven great-grandchildren; two aunts; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
