Obituary

Allen Gene Schubert, age 78, of New Ulm, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.

Visitation with the family will be 5:30pm – 7:30pm, Friday, December 20, at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am, Saturday, December 21, at Welcome Lutheran Church, with Pastor John R. Sutton Jr. officiating. In accordance with his wishes, Allen will be cremated. Interment will be private.

Allen Gene Schubert was born November 8, 1941, to parents Kinch Alfred Schubert and Vallie (Krause) Schubert at their home in New Ulm. He was baptized and confirmed at Industry United Methodist Church in Industry, Texas. He grew up in the area and attended school at West End and graduated from Bellville High School.

On July 22, 1962 Allen was united in marriage to Vernell Lois Schulz at Welcome Lutheran Church. They made their home in New Ulm and raised their four children.

Allen was a hard worker and dedicated family man. He was a cattle rancher his entire life, putting great care and effort into his ranch. He also did conservation dirt work and custom hay bailing.

Allen was an avid deer hunter. He enjoyed hunting trips all over the state of Texas, and to Colorado. He also enjoyed dancing and listening to music (especially polka) and playing cards and dominoes with family and friends. Allen was very involved in his community – Industry Volunteer Fire Department, Austin County Beef and Forage Committee, Austin County Farm Bureau Board, and Austin County Livestock Association. He was an officer with West End Feed Insurance. Allen received an award of merit for outstanding accomplishments in resource conservation from the Austin County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was a longtime member of Welcome Lutheran Church.

Allen’s surviving loving family includes wife of 57 years, Lois; children Gregg Allen (wife Candy), Brian Scott (wife Rachel), Rodney Wade (wife Diane), Gina Renea (husband Lee); grandchildren, Angela Nicole and Nathan Grawunder, Brady Allen and Jamie Schubert, Brian Hunter and Meghan Schubert, Lauren Reneau and Brady Lee, Lindsey Gail Schubert, Kinch William Schubert, Jared Wade Schubert and fiancé Elyse Hlavinka, Clayton Allen Schubert, Leon Glenn Miles III, “Glenn”, and Jake Allen Miles; great-grandchildren Layne and Whitley Grawunder, Ayla and Briggs Schubert, Jenna, Ava, and Emma Lee, Kailyn, Wesleigh and Dean Schubert; and beloved dog Missy – “Man’s best friend”.

Allen is preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Alvin and Esther Schulz; and two great-granddaughters, Ella Faith Lee and Sloan Olivia Schubert.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Brady Schubert, Hunter Schubert, Kinch Schubert, Jared Schubert, Clayton Schubert, Glenn Miles, Jake Miles, George Thiel. Honorary Pallbearers are Allen’s good friends at the Austin County Beef and Forage Committee and the Austin County Livestock Association.
