Obituary
Alvis “Al” Grohman, Sr. age 77 of Brenham passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the family residence.
Al was born August 5, 1931 in Bastrop County to Sylvester and Alma Frerich Grohman. He graduated from high school as Salutatorian of his class and also attended San Antonio Junior College. He proudly served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On May 30, 1953 he was married to Dorothy Ewald in Rockne, TX by Father Faust. He retired from the Federal Aviation Administration after 32 years as an Electronics Technician Supervisor. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Al was a past president, treasurer and member of Top Cats Dance Club. He enjoyed camping, fishing, water skiing, dancing, dominoes, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
His parents, Sylvester Grohman and Alma Frerich Grohman preceded him in death.
His loving family includes his wife of nearly 56 years Dorothy Ewald Grohman; sons Alvis Grohman, Jr. and wife Sharon, David Grohman and wife Judy, Lonnie Grohman and wife Tammy, James Grohman and wife Debra, Kevin Grohman and wife J’Nell; daughter Sherri Nichols and husband Ned; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters Gladys Rice and Evelyn Franke.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2009 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Bradford Hernandez, as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers are his 9 grandsons: Jason Grohman, Bryan Grohman, Lonnie Grohman II, Matthew Grohman, Dustin Grohman, Alan Grohman, Austin Nichols, Cameron Nichols, and Travis Grohman. Honorary Pallbearers are Alfred Weiss, Bennie Emshoff, Clarence Martin, Bert Jaeger, and Darwin Brown.
Memorials may be given to Brazos Valley Hospice in Brenham and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
