Obituary

Amanda Clara Hugo, 84 of Brenham, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 12th, 5-7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13th at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Matthew Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

She was born December 12, 1932 in Serbin, Texas to Otto Bernhardt Sr. and Hulda Lydia (Bohot) Becker. She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Serbin, Texas in December of 1932 and was confirmed on April 14, 1946 also at St. Paul Serbin by Pastor Schmidt. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 145:18-19. She also attended school at St. Paul in Serbin. On April 6, 1958, she married Berry Hugo at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran in Brenham, and was active in Ladies Afternoon LWML Circle and Sewing Circle at Grace.

Amanda was proud of her German heritage, often having conversations in German with her family and friends. She also enjoyed singing German songs and hymns. Throughout her life she enjoying dancing with her husband, playing cards, dominos and listening to Polka music. Amanda also enjoyed working in her yard tending her wide variety of flowers, especially roses and her plants. She enjoyed canning the vegetables from her garden and making jelly. She especially liked to make sugar cookies, lemon meringue pie, coffee cake and her special honey bars. Crocheting, quilting and embroidery were also activities she enjoyed along with entering items in the local county fair.

Her grandchildren hold special memories of baking sugar cookies, stuffing pickle jars and trips to the park.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Berry Hugo; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rubin and Ruth Becker, Edmund “Tom” and Helen Becker, Otto Becker, Jr., Fred Becker; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Richard Herzog, Adelia Becker, Esther and Paul Zoch.

Loving family includes: daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Fred Schultz, Jr. and Karen and Mark Mantey; grandchildren, Cameron, Brittany and Emily Schultz, Justin Mantey and fiancée Hannah Hahn, Cortney and Orry Randermann, great-grandson, Charlie Randermann; sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Alfred Boriack; sisters-in-law, Janiece Becker, Mary Ann Becker; numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cameron Schultz, Justin Mantey, Virgil Becker, Gary Becker, Dennis Boettcher and Ralph Zoch.

The family requests memorials to Grace Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley.
