Ann Lucas Gilpin Deckman is my aunt. While searching for Lucas genealogy (April, 2011), I discovered Aunt Ann's obituary.
Because of the divorce of my mother and father (Carl Lucas, Ann's brother), my relationship with the extended Lucas family did not receive appropriate attention -- and I lost touch with Aunt Ann. Nevertheless, during my early childhood in Amarillo, I have loving memories of her.
Not until I read Aunt Ann's obituary was I aware of her extensive accomplishments. I too am a Special Educator as well as a Rehabilitation Counselor, and I am proud to have had experiences similar to those of my aunt.
Today as I remember Aunt Ann, I recognize the necessity of expressing love and admiration for family members -- and I regret missing that opportunity. Thanks to this beautifully prepared web site, I have a second chance to express the deep feelings I have for my aunt.

My mother recently sent me a clipping (this obituary) from the Jacksonville, TX, newpaper. How sad I was, to learn that my beloved kindergarten teacher had passed away. (Methodist Readiness School, '73-'74)
It's so poignant that such an animated mind would be ravaged by Alzheimer's. I am deeply sorry for your loss. God bless her care-givers; you will have "stars in your crowns."
What blessing and consolation you must find in knowing that she had such a positive and lasting influence on so many lives!
