Armando Gabriel Velasquez

Armando “Mando” Velasquez, 42, of Brenham, passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2020.

There will be a visitation gathering in his honor on Saturday, August 29, from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel. From 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, there will be an open-mic time for eulogies and memories. The family looks forward to hearing your funny stories of Mando as they gather to remember the good times.

Mando was born on March 13, 1978, in San Diego, California. He was the oldest of four children born to Isabel Velasquez. He was followed by Arturo, Marcos, and Kayla. Mando loved his family and was a rock to his younger siblings. He was a dedicated provider for them and was a teacher and mentor. He could be tough sometimes, but really he was a gentle giant with a big heart. Mando spent part of his childhood in San Diego before the family settled in the Brenham area.

Mando seemed to get along with everyone, from his Brenham High School football buddies to his many coworkers through the years. Mando was employed by various manufacturing businesses in Brenham.

Mando was a fun-loving guy and was still a kid at heart. He enjoyed the simple things in life, like getting together with friends and family to crack open a cold one and watch a Dallas Cowboys game. He was talented artist and loved to draw. Mando was a loving husband to his wife of 11 years, Rebecca, and a great dad to his bonus daughter Elyssa. He adored all animals especially his fur babies Cello & Dizzy. He enjoyed life to its fullest and made an impact wherever he went.

Mando is survived by his wife Rebecca (Brisco) Velasquez; step-daughter Elyssa Martin; siblings Arturo, Marcos, and Kayla; sister-in-law Jennifer; step-parents and friends Clay & Gina; mother Isabel; nieces and nephews Robert, Alexis, Ryan, Gabriel, Kylie, Giovanni, Joziah, Lylah; numerous aunts, uncles, and many loving friends who were like family to him.

Mando is preceded in death by beloved father figure Michael Farrer, and his best friend and long time dog companion, Jax.

A GoFundMe has been started to offset memorial expenses and/or donations can be made in his honor to the Brenham Animal Shelter.
