Arnold H. “Fat” Fuelberg age 91 of Brenham passed away Monday, October 3, 2005 in St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan.
Mr. Fuelberg was born July 25, 1914 in Brenham, Texas. He was the son of Fritz and Annie (Seeker) Fuelberg. He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville. He received his education from the rural school of Kuykendall and attended Blinn College.
During the depression he served seven years in the Civilian Conversation Corp, better known as the CCC. He was in the army at the time of Pearl Harbor, and continued to serve the next 3 years in North Africa, Italy, South France and Germany. He was discharged in 1945.
He was employed by the Lower Colorado River Authority where he served 31 years. At the time of his retirement in 1976, he was classified as a general line foreman in charge of the Brenham office.
He was married to Lillie Mae (Sander-Helmer) Fuelberg on April 6, 1946 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Brenham by Rev. Theo R. Streng.
Mr. Fuelberg was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville and a long-time member of Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Buddy Wright Post #48 of the American Legion and the James F. Dillon Post #7104 of the V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by parents; wife Lillie Mae Fuelberg in 1999, son Ocie Helmer in 1996, daughter-in-law Darlene Helmer in 1998 and great-granddaughter Angelita Chavelas in 2004.
Survivors include his grandson Russell Helmer; granddaughter and husband Lisa and Rene Chavelas; great-grandchildren Kenneth Helmer, Erica Helmer and special friend Luke Ladewig, Abigail Chavelas; great-great-grandson Naylon Eric Ladewig all of Brenham; brothers and sisters-in-law Ben and Evelyn Fuelberg of Austin, Walter Fuelberg and special friend Bernedine both of Channelview; sisters and brother-in-law Earl and Viola Bright and Lillie Sommer all of Brenham; sisters-in-law Esterra Sanders, Ruth Bohannon and Dorothy Sanders all of Houston and Frieda Sanders of Montgomery; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the Fuelberg family will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2005 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2005 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville with Pastor Jim Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
His nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be David and Debbie Winslow Family, Dayna Ruemke, Janice McClendon, Earl Vondergolitz, Earl Gray, all the employees and retired employees of the LCRA and Bluebonnet Electric Coop as well as the “Coffee Bunch” at Randermann Grocery.
