Barbara (Terry) Gaskamp Sanders

Barbara Terry Gaskamp Sanders, 76 of Brenham, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at her home.

Barbara was born December 5, 1933 in Dallas, Texas to Walter and Tommie (Jordan) Terry. She was baptized in 1940 at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church. The family moved to Houston in 1948. She was a 1951 graduate of John Reagan High School. After being a proud Red Coat and making life-long friends, she moved to Brenham. Barbara attended Blinn College, where she met her husband of almost fifty years, Robert Gaskamp. They lived most of their married life in Brenham, where they owned several businesses and raised their three children. She made many friends in Brenham and was always ready for a “Brenham Party”. She loved her church and gave St. Paul’s Lutheran Church credit for her Christian spiritual growth. There she was confirmed August 24, 1974. After the death of Robert Gaskamp in 2002, she moved her dad to Brenham and took care of him until his death in 2007.

On September 2, 2007 her second “life” began, being married to J. Ray Sanders in St. Paul’s by Pastor Lawrence Bade. They shared their passion for the Lord. They loved traveling in their motor home. Living in Kruse Village Retirement Center, they added to their long list of friends.

Her parents, first husband and stepson Larry Sanders preceded her in death.

Her loving family includes: husband, Ray Sanders of Brenham; children Kathy Gaskamp Graves of Spokane, Washington, Mike Gaskamp and wife Jody of Brenham, Robert Gaskamp and wife Monica of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Sierra Gaskamp, Mollye Gray, Abigail Gilmore; great grandchildren, Jason and Alyssa Montgomery, Preslye Gray, Isabelle, Madeline, Samuel, Zachary Gilmore; sister Dannette Hunt and family and many other special family members.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 18th from 5 to 7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 19th at 10 a.m., in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastors Lawrence Bade and Phil Fenton officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jason Montgomery, Johnny Gray, Brent Gaskamp, Weldon Gaskamp, Edward Kruse and Howard Kruse.

Memorials may be given to Hospice, Brenham or St. Paul’s Christian Day School.
