Obituary
Ben “Benny” Herman Niemeyer, 94 of Brenham, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 in Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center. Visitation will be Thursday, August 1st from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday, August 2nd at 10 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill with Rev. David Hansen officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Benny was born April 8, 1919 to Chris and Louise (Koehne) Niemeyer in Cawthon, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945 and was a disabled veteran. On January 27, 1946, he married Dorothy Lange in St. John Lutheran Church. Benny was employed for 46 years at LaRoche Chevrolet as a mechanic and shop foreman.
Memberships included: St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, where he served on council; Buddy Wright Post #48 of the American Legion; and James F. Dillon Post #7104 of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by: parents; wife of 63 years, Dorothy Niemeyer; sisters, Ella Mae Steinfeld, Emmie Kelm, Sophie Hahn, Annie Dahmann; brothers, Henry Niemeyer, and William Niemeyer, nieces, Patsy Zwahr, Lydia Marie Zwahr and great niece, Susan Meyer, along with a host of other relatives.
Surviving loving family includes: sister, Lydia Lange of Brenham, sister-in-law Mary Lange of Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Linda and Milton Hueske, Karen and Larry Kopecky, David and Marilyn Lange, Donald Lee and Carolyn Lange, Keith and Linda Bohac; Ervin Kelm Jr., Betty Joyce Carter, Patricia Schwartz, Mary Sklar, Judy Steinfeld, Janice Ray and Clarence Steinfeld, Wallie Zwahr and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Milton Hueske, Larry Kopecky, Jared Kopecky, David Lange, Darrell Zwahr, Dean Zwahr and Keith Bohac.
